Lately it seems everything our president touches turns to rust instead of gold. I remember becoming aware of this beginning with the Romney/dog incident. Then there was the tweet, from the Obama camp, that asked Gov. Romney what he was hiding. I'm sure there was some face palm going on after that one...considering Obama is the least vetted and least known man that has ever held the office of the President of the United States. The latest tactic, the supposed Romney/Ryan 'war on women' seems to be backfiring as well. A recent ABC news poll showed that the president's favorability among women has slipped dramatically since April and Mitt Romney's has risen. The most obvious reason to me is that Mitt Romney/Paul Ryan are talking about the economy, jobs and education while Mr. Obama and the Democrats have reduced women's concerns to nothing more than their reproductive organs.
After pondering this for a while I think the problem is that Mr. Obama has moved so far to the left that the only ones listening to him anymore are the ones who reside on the fringes of the left. He keeps saying Romney/Ryan are extremists when in reality they are actually closer to mainstream Americans than Obama is. The Democratic platform for 2012 has been tweaked to appeal to the concerns of secular humanists, radical feminists, GLBTcommunity and organized labor. In 2008 Mr. Obama had a soft fuzzy appeal of hope and change. Nobody knew anything about him and I believe it was intentional for many reasons but perhaps the most practical being that then people could mold his image into a whatever dream they had. It was never explained what that change would look like. Well now almost 4 years later people have seen his idea of hope and change and for the majority of people they seem to have been excluded. We have also been demonized and blamed for what is wrong in America. We have been slandered, lied to and lied about. His vision of America is not the historical one nor is the one that so many people, including most of our ancestors, came here seeking... in fact it is becoming more and more like the ones they had fled. Except for those enslaved to the welfare state and terrified by the lies from the left, the poor, including Blacks, are abandoning him... even Mr. Obama's core is not so solid.
Consider this:
"A national marriage survey commissioned by a conservative legal group found that 62 percent of Americans believe that marriage should be defined as a union between a man and a woman. The numbers, the survey director said, mirrors the millions of Americans in 31 states who voted in favor of constitutional marriage amendments."
“President Obama has opposed even minor limits on abortion, such as a ban on sex-selective abortion, a ban on late term abortions past the point at which the unborn child is capable of feeling pain, and has even opposed legislation to protect a baby accidentally born alive after a failed abortion,”

Interviews with 1,026 adult Americans conducted by telephone by ORC International on February 10-13 for CNN asked, “As you may know, the Obama administration has announced a new policy concerning health insurance plans provided by employers, including religious organizations, and how they handle birth control and contraceptive services for women. Based on what you have read or heard, do you approve or disapprove of this policy?”
The results show 50 percent disapprove with the new Obama mandate while 44 percent of Americans support it and 6 percent are undecided.

"There has been an even larger jump in the percentage saying labor unions mostly hurt the U.S. economy, from 36% in 2006 to 51% today. This is the first time since the question was established in 1997 that more Americans have said unions hurt rather than help the economy. Americans' general concerns about the current state of the economy could certainly be a factor in these more negative views of unions, in addition to specific perceptions about unions."

It seems obvious to me that as Mr. Obama has moved further to the left along with his Democratic Party he has left little room for moderate Democrats. What he has chosen as his base this campaign season represents very small sections of the population. Is it a wonder he cannot fill stadiums or convention halls? Mr Obama has alienated a large group of people in this country including many blacks. I am talking about the majority of the 78% of Americans who self identify as Christians.
